With the release of Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse, it shows that I own only 2 of the 33 races. I know I have all, or most of the ones it shows there. Does anybody know why it show that I only own 2 of 33?

Did you buy Mordenkainen Presents here? Most of the races have been updated. Maybe the 2 it says you own weren’t changed? Which two does it say you own?

I haven't bought anything from the new book. And, nothing from the website in quite some time. The two races that it shows that I own are Harengon and Fairy.

Since Witchlight, in which Harengon and Fairy were first published, is pretty new, I don't think any changes were made to those to races. If you bought Witchlight or the two races from there, that would explain it. If you didn't, there's a glitch somewhere. The MotM thread explains that those two races are now coded as being sourced from MotM, but anyone who bought Witchlight (or bought them a la carte from the Witchlight entry) would retain ownership. All the other races have been updated; you should, however, still have access to any legacy races you purchased earlier.

30 (or so) races have been changed and are considered separate races from their old versions.
Versions of the races that were released in Volo's and Mordenkain's are now identified as "Legacy" in the character builder, while the new versions are identified as Monsters of the Multiverse.

there's nothing to update. They're considered brand new content.

So, if I buy them again, would it automatically up date them?
If you buy M3, then you would have the M3 versions of the races and also have the Legacy versions of any of the races you already own. You would have both versions.
To clarify: you have the Harengon and Fairy because you bought The Wild Beyond the Witchlight. Those races were reprinted (without any changes, I think) in Monsters of the Multiverse, but as it’s intended to be the primary source for all the races in it, they’re now listed as belonging to that book. The first post in this thread explains how it works.
I have a similar problem. One of players in our group bought Monsters of the Multiverse and shared it with the campaign. It even shows the monsters of the multiverse as one of the books owned and shared. I see the races when I look it up in the drop down menu, and I can peruse through the D&D Beyond book. However, none of the new races show up in the character generator. When I'm in the character generator under race, I look at the drop down menu for race sources, and Monsters of the Multiverse doesn't show up. Any ideas?

Try checking your entitlements. If that doesn't do it, ask whoever turned on content sharing to do the same and then turn sharing off and back on again.

You are building the character in the same campaign the book is shared in right?
If so, try turning sharing off and on again.
The new races arent merged with the other race groups, so you don't have to go looking for them that hard.
I was not building the character in the campaign it is shared with. It is showing up in that. I'm just confused, because everything else shared shows up normally. Oh well. Thank you both for your assistance.
Shared content will only ever be available in the specific campaign(s) with which that content is being shared. Content is shared with the campaign itself, not the players in that campaign.
So, if I buy the new ones. Is there some way to tell, which in new, and which is the older version?
The old versions have "(Legacy)" in their title when looking on the Race's page - it does not appear when you are on the Race page of the character sheet editor.

Ya, I was thinking that it might have been a glitch or something. I will give it some time and see what happens.

You can see the source listed in the builder. The ones sourced to the new book are the new ones.
