I was wondering how a staff weapon or zat gun would work, mechanically speaking. With the staff weapon, I was thinking 1d6 bludgeoning with additional 1d4 lightening. Or reverse. With the zat, I think 1d4 lightening. But on a critical, it can stun/paralyze for one round. Maybe a little OP at lower levels, granted. But I will defer to folks with more knowledge.
A Ma'Tok staff weapon could deal bludgeoning and radiant damage from the plasma bolt. The Zat'nik'tel gun could also deal radiant damage from the energy.
This would be more suited in the Homebrew section.
